All About Bernedoodles

The Bernedoodle is a charming, intelligent, and loyal designer breed created by crossing a Bernese Mountain Dog with a Poodle. This pairing brings together the best of both worlds — the gentle, affectionate nature of the Bernese and the low-shedding, highly intelligent traits of the Poodle. The result is a dog that’s not only beautiful but also loving, trainable, and well-suited for families and individuals alike.

Bernedoodles are known for their friendly, goofy, and social personalities. They tend to form strong bonds with their families and thrive on companionship and attention. Thanks to their Bernese lineage, they often have a calm, gentle side, while their Poodle genetics give them intelligence, athleticism, and a fun-loving spark.

They’re often described as affectionate “people dogs” who enjoy being part of every family activity — whether it’s hiking, cuddling on the couch, or greeting new visitors with a wagging tail.

Coat Types and Colors

Bernedoodles come in a range of coat textures — from soft wavy coats to tighter curls — depending on the generation and genetics. Their coats are typically low-shedding and hypoallergenic, making them a great choice for allergy-sensitive homes when properly groomed.

At Blue Ridge Bernedoodles, we specialize in producing Tri-Color and Merle Bernedoodles — two of the most stunning and sought-after color patterns in the breed.

  • Tri-Color Bernedoodles display the classic black, white, and rust markings reminiscent of the Bernese Mountain Dog.

  • Merle Bernedoodles feature a unique marbled coat pattern that can include shades of blue, silver, or chocolate, often paired with tan points and white markings.

Our careful genetic selection ensures that each puppy’s color is not only beautiful but also backed by sound health and structure.

Sizes We Focus On

While Bernedoodles can range from tiny to giant, our program focuses on two ideal sizes:

  • Mini Bernedoodles (25–35 lbs) – Perfect for families or individuals wanting the Bernedoodle temperament in a more compact size. Minis are playful, portable, and full of personality.

  • Standard Bernedoodles (65–90 lbs) – Ideal for those who love the majestic look and calm, loyal nature of the traditional Bernedoodle. Standards make incredible companions for active families with space to roam.

We believe both sizes offer the best combination of intelligence, affection, and beauty — it simply depends on your lifestyle and space.
